The Story
The Pastures Collection is Pyramid Valley view of the three great South Island appellations of New Zealand - North Canterbury, Central Otago and Marlborough. The collection includes a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from North Canterbury and a Pinot Noir from Central Otago, somewhat like the village wines of Burgundy. And, like Burgundy and the Loire, Pyramid Valley celebrate single vineyard and small block parcels named after the heritage of the vineyard, culture and people.
Vineyard & Winemaking
Biogro certified vineyard planted on an east facing slope on Mackenzies Road in Waipara. Clone 5 Pinot Noir from the Course-Choi vineyard (previously Porters/Bellbird), planted in 2004 Domett Clay soils. Harvested on 18 March 2020.
Hand picked and hand sorted in the winery. 33% whole bunch, uninoculated ferment in wooden cuves for 3 weeks. Pressed and settled prior to aging in french oak barrels, 33% new for 18 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes:
Vibrant crimson hue. Brooding complex aromas of lifted florals, red berries and a gamey, earthy complexity.Vibrant palette of fresh berries with an earthy, mouth-filling structure that coats the mouth. Sinewy tannins drive the wine with a long saline minerally finish.
