The Story

Viu Manent is a Chilean winery owned by the Viu family. It was founded in 1935 when the Catalonian immigrant Miguel Viu-García and his two sons Agustín and Miguel Viu-Manent founded Bodegas Viu in Santiago de Chile.

Viu Manent wines are made with grapes from their own properties in the Colchagua Valley in Chile’s Central Zone, 130 km (80 mi) southeast of the capital, Santiago. The winery’s 254 hectares (627 acres) are divided among vineyards in San Carlos, La Capilla, and El Olivar.

Secret is a line of modern and fresh style wines. Each Secret wine, while expressing the characteristics of its main variety, always keeps the mystery of its blend, which is carefully hidden by the winemaker and corresponds to up to 15% of the wine.
The secret of our blend remains hidden and more relevant than ever.

Vineyard & Winemaking

Fruit from the El Olivar vineyward, near the town of Peralillo in the Colchagua Valley. The vineyard has an average age of 19 years.  The vineyard is located on a hillside with
a 6–15º slope. The very porous rocky-clay soil presents very fragmented rocky alterite and is highly colonised by roots

The vines are planted to density of 4,348 plants/hectare, trellised to low vertical shoot position, and are spur pruned. Shoots are pulled in the spring and early summer, and leaves are pulled manually in early March to ensure good ventilation for the grapes.
The grapes were harvested between March 15–April 7, 2022.

The grapes were destemmed and gently crushed into a stainless steel tank, where they underwent a 3-day pre-fermentation cold soak at 8ºC for greater extraction of colour and aromas. Alcoholic fermentation took place with native yeasts at 26–28ºC with 3–4 short pump-overs per day to extract only the most elegant tannins and obtain the fruitiest and friendliest wine possible. Malolactic fermentation took place naturally in oak barrels.

85% Syrah... so what's the 15% secret in the blend?

Tasting Notes:

Of a deep-violet colour. The expressive nose is fruit-forward, with aromas of black fruit such as blackberry and calafate, accompanied by a subtle meaty note on the finish. The palate shows a balanced wine with nice concentration and rich acidity. The tannins are firm and fresh, leading to a long, mineral finish.
