The Story
Smith & Sheth is the visionary collaboration between Master of Wine Steve Smith and US environmentalist Brian Sheth. Based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, they create the CRU label—celebrating terroir, heritage, and meticulous craftsmanship. They operate as a modern-style négociant, sourcing exceptional fruit from regions across New Zealand, including Bridge Pa Triangle and Magatahi, under the Aotearoa New Zealand Fine Wine Estates umbrella.
Vineyard & Winemaking
Mature vines from the stony soils around Marlborough's Renwick township blended with select parcels from a heritage vineyard in Dillons Point and a hillside vineyard in the Southern Valleys.
A combination of hand and machine picked fruit. Fermented in stainless steel at both cool and steady temperatures with cultured yeasts to maintain good flavour and aromatics with
small portions fermented in oak fuders. Wines were left for six months on full lees to continue palate weight development. Integration of the oak components with the stainless steel built mid-palate texture and integrated the various expressions of terroir.
Tasting Notes:
A bright and elegant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, defined by its pale straw hue and graceful aromas. The nose unveils a complex bouquet of gooseberry, elderflower, tomato leaf, and passion fruit, woven with fresh citrus, green herbs, and vibrant tropical notes
On the palate it retains a lively, refined character—balanced acidity meets generous fruit, with a long, ripe finish that invites both food and conversation.
Food Pairing
Great on its own but a perfect match for salad as well as fish and chicken dishes.
